Never mention vacation

March 24th, 2007 · No Comments

That was one big error on my part. I mentioned the world vacation to the wife and all hell broke loose in the house. the travel articles started to appear out of the closets, desks and baskets.

Every two minutes a new idea appeared. Forget about Disney how about visiting the aunt in Long Beach out in California? How about that other aunt who lives just outside of NYC. I quickly picked up on the fact that my involvement with the whole vacation decision process ended when I mentioned vacation.

My input was limited to the start of the vacation planning process. So I tried to get some input into the planning when I mentioned the wife’s old friend who recently had her first kid out in Kelowna, British Columbia. Well that actually worked I had an idea that carried some weight in the decison making process.

Problem was I didn’t want to spend my vacation listening to some 3 month old kid cry herself to sleep. I needed to find some Hotels in Kelowna and I needed to get that done fast or I would be enjoying my vacation on some pull out couch listening to some sweet little kid cry herself to sleep.

The search went ok since its kind of downtime out in BC right now. The skiers have hit the area but its the summer season that really attracts the crowds to the region. If you want to see the British Columbia wine region you head out to Kelowna. You want to see some nice warm mild temperature and enough golk courses that you could spend a few weeks in the region and never hit the same links, well you could head out to Kelowna.

So the hotel hunt went ok but it was the flights that was killing the budget. Air travel in Canada is nuts. The taxes are so high its really leaves you wondering were all those fees end up. I think the only people happy with the high rates are the credit card companies who end up making a few extra dollars once everyone can’t pay for their vacation once their bill appears.
