So if its time to move I really have to consider all the different elements of moving out to the west coast. Besides the kids its the other folks that I’m related to that have to be considered. Yes I’m talking about old Mom and Dad.
I mentioned the possibility of the move and the reaction was not the greatest. The folks are getting up there in age and their health is starting to show its age just like them. I’m always trying to help them out by doing anything that is close to a major chore around the house. Plus I’m dropping by any new products or any health care tips for seniors that I can find. Anything that I feel can help them ends up on their kitchen table. Unfortunately I think some of it moves right into the recycling bin once I leave the house.
The problem is that I west coast move would really change everything in regard to how I keep in touch with the folks. No more casual drives over to visit the folks whenever the kids want to see grandpa and grandma. Its really handy to have them available so I can drop the kids off to play for maybe a hour or so.
Plus the whole issue of their health starts to play into my mind. Being across the country would really chnage things in how I deal with any health issue that they raise. Now its kind of easy to interact and see how they are doing physically. But what about over the phone from accross the country. How do I identifying chest pain quickly and figure out if its heart burn from eating some spicy chili dog or a bigger issue. All those things have to be considered when I’m lloking at this whole west coast move. I sure am glad that the cost of long distance has gone down over the past few years. Those weekly or daily calls would really start to eat into the household budget.
